Deer Tracking & Stalking School
Master Maine Guide Randy Flannery will share knowledge passed down through generations.
Learn the Art of Tracking & Stalking
There’s a difference between hunting deer… and truly tracking them.
At Wilderness Escape Outfitters Deer Tracking School, you’ll step into the boots of a traditional woodsman and learn how to follow a whitetail’s tracks, decipher sign, and close the distance using skill—not luck.
This class is designed to teach you how to read deer sign and the woods with confidence and purpose.
Meet Your Instructor
Master Maine Guide Randy Flannery is widely respected for his deep knowledge of deer behavior and traditional tracking methods.
With decades of experience pursuing mature whitetails in challenging conditions, Randy has built a reputation for doing what many hunters consider impossible—consistently finding and taking big woods bucks by track alone.
His background includes:
- Decades of hands-on tracking experience in big woods environments
- Numerous successful mature buck harvests through tracking and stalking
- Published articles on deer tracking and woodsmanship
- Educational seminars teaching tracking, stalking, and reading deer behavior
- A proven system for interpreting sign and predicting buck movement
Randy doesn’t just teach theory—he teaches what works in real conditions.
What You’ll Learn
This school focuses on two core disciplines: Tracking and Stalking. Each skill is taught the way it’s practiced in the real woods.
Practical, direct, and experience-driven.
Tracking
Tracking is more than following footprints. It’s understanding the story the tracks are telling you.
You’ll learn:
- How to tell the difference between a buck and doe track
- How to accurately age a track
- How to read a track to determine what the deer is doing
- How to know when to move fast and when to slow down
- How to close the deal when the moment comes
You’ll learn how to interpret stride, direction, behavior changes, and subtle clues that reveal whether a buck is feeding, cruising, bedding, or becoming alert.
Stalking
Stalking is where preparation meets opportunity. It requires awareness, navigation skills, and decisive action.
You’ll learn:
- Map and compass skills for big woods navigation
- How to consistently find big bucks
- How to walk up on deer in all conditions
- How to react when a buck is jumped
- How to shoot fast, including fast and accurate follow up shots
This portion of the school focuses on reading terrain, anticipating movement, reacting under pressure, and executing efficiently when seconds matter.
Who This School Is For
- Hunters who want to become more self-reliant
- Those interested in traditional tracking and stalking
- Big woods hunters seeking mature buck strategies
- Anyone wanting to sharpen their ability to read sign and terrain
Whether you’re new to tracking or looking to refine your skills, you’ll leave with practical tools you can apply immediately.
